In recent years, there has been a massive influx of refugees and migrants from North Africa and the Middle East to Europe. Refugees are someone who is unable or unwilling to return to their own country because of a founded fear of being persecuted because of their race, religion, opinion, or membership in a social group. This is due largely to the civil war that has been raging for the last few years in Syria, however, many more come from Africa and other parts of the Middle East to escape other war-torn areas, poverty, and find a better life in the welfare state of the European Union. The recent surge in the last couple of years of refugees flocking to Europe has caused debate. European countries need to use the good and the bad to decide why refugees should not be allowed, there is being nice, but there is also being smart as a country and taking care of your country first before you try and help take in people from other ones and fix them. Poland and Hungary, for example, have been ostracized by other EU members for their unwillingness to accept the predominately Muslim refugees into their countries, The prime minister of Hungary stated that “a historical task has been put before European countries: defending Christian culture”. While it is good to help those in need, one must think logically and go beyond the general gesture of helping those in need and look at the effects of such a massive influx of people whose culture and religion conflict with both traditional and modern European values. European Union should refuse all refugees entrance into their countries to protect Europe.
While not all Muslims are hardline extremists like the Islamic State, Saudi Arabia, or Al-Shabaab, it is safe to say based on data collected by surveys and studies as well as simply looking back in history, Homophobia and Anti-Semitism are very prominent among large numbers of Muslims and the countries where Islam is the most prominent religion. In most Muslim countries, being a homosexual is considered a crime and is punishable by severe beatings or outright public execution. For example, in Gaza, someone even being merely suspected of being a homosexual will be thrown off the top of a building to their fate below. Public shootings of homosexuals by Al-Shabaab in Somalia or the public hangings in Iran are just some examples of the rampant homophobia in the Islamic world (Washington Post) Anti-Semitism was an underlying factor in the 1948 invasion of Israel. Before that, the Mufti of Jerusalem conspired with Nazi Germany during the second world war to prevent the establishment of a Jewish state in British Palestine. Several instances occurred in the middle east during the time when Jews were massacred by Muslims, particularly in Iraq. This persecution was just not limited to Jews, however. Christians met a similar fate and still to this day are persecuted the same as the Jews in majority Muslim countries. The Mufti also helped recruit soldiers into the 13th Waffen SS Mountain Division. The “Handschar” division was made up primarily of Muslim Bosnians and was admired by Heinrich Himmler for their warrior spirit and their hatred of Jews.
Rape and Sexual assault are another thing that has increased in Europe over the years with the increase of refugees and asylum seekers. The New Year's Eve sexual assaults in Germany and the high rape rate in Sweden are directly attributed to refugees from Muslim majority countries. In the case of the 2016 new year's celebrations in Germany, two-thirds of the suspects arrested in the sexual assault and rape cases were from Morocco or Algeria and four of the suspects were undocumented migrants. (Welt) In Sweden, the number of rapes and sexual assaults increased dramatically from the time when Sweden first started taking in refugees. Nearly 60% of all convicted in Sweden for rape or sexual assault in the last five years were foreign-born. In cases reported to the SVD, that did not all lead to convictions, the number was over 80%. (BBC) It would be wrong to call the increase in sexual assaults and rape a mere coincidence that has.
Those who are in favor of mass migration in Europe cite the declining population of European countries as a justification to allow such a large number of migrants and refugees into Europe. This is a trend throughout most of the western world. The same is happening between white and black Americans. Several factors come into play as to why the population of Europe and certain demographics in America have been declining. People in developed countries tend to have fewer children due to the cost of living. The predominant migrant groups come from less developed countries and have more children because of less access to birth control and religious beliefs. Eurostat estimates that only Ireland, France, Norway, and Britain would see their populations rise without migration. (Economist) Italy and Germany are expected, by 2050, to have a population decline of nearly 20% unless the current flow of migrants continues, and even then, Germany is only expected to maintain its current population numbers. (Economist) Another reason many support migration is the humanitarian aspect of the situation.
While it is good to help those in need who are facing persecution or famine in their homeland. Fleeing is not the answer. It does not solve the issue that exists in the country from where the people come from. It is true that especially Syria and many countries in North Africa are subject to the terror of radical Islamic terrorists. Simply ignoring the issue or fleeing it will never truly solve the problems in those countries. The situation will never change if this trend continues.
The object of all of this should not be to relocate the refugees but, it should be to end the wars in countries such as Syria so not as many citizens from the broken beaten countries will continue to flee their countries. If Europe and the United States would figure out a treaty to rebuild the countries and stop all of this hate, anger, and killing then maybe their countries would be better and they would not continue coming to Europe and treating it like a wasteland. Most refugees treat Europe just like as if they were in their home countries and not being Christians they would not even care to bring all the bloodshed, to another country, the reason being is that they have no consequences meaning after they die they mostly believe that is the end heaven and hell is only something Christians believe. God the god Christians worship is a joke to most refugees Jesus is not the messiah so if the European countries are founded on Christianity as they say do not let another culture change it.
Population replacement is not a good enough justification either to allow migrants and refugees from these regions into Europe. The people come from a very different culture and very different religious beliefs than those of the people in Europe and as shown, most of the immigrant groups form their own communities rather than assimilating into European culture. Simply replacing the declining population with migrants will radically change Europe and have a profound effect on the culture of Europe. A lot of the beliefs of the predominant religion of these migrants, Islam, heavily conflicts with modern western values and will likely lead to conflict in Europe if the trend continues at the rate it is now. I believe that Europeans should value their culture and history and realize what is at risk. It doesn’t take looking that far in history to realize the conflict caused when the Ottomans tried to take over Europe to spread their religion, as well as the Reconquista of Spain from Islamic rule. Therefore, to prevent history from repeating itself and to preserve its identity, I believe that Europe should say no to these refugees and migrants to preserve itself for the future.
