Why racial segregation is not out of comfort and choice on the part of people of color, as opposed to any further barriers being erected by whites today.

One of the questions that have bothered the mind of many is whether people know why racial segregation occurs. In 1973, the Supreme Court declared that it did not understand why it happened and in doing so it dealt with the crushing blow to the civil rights movement. In Milliken vs. Brandley case, the court judged that the white suburbs of Detroit would be excluded in Detroit’s school desegregation plan (Byrd & Clayton, (2015). It was passed that black students were concentrated in Detroit due to unknown and unestablished factors. Ideally, racial segregation is not out of comfort and choice on the part of people of color but out of the extreme discrimination in the labor force.

The whites placed barriers to upward mobility in the United States. Racial segregation was also advanced by the stigmatization (Harris, 2017). The whites always looked down upon the black community and saw them as inferior and invaluable humans. Apart from being denied quality jobs, the black community was manipulated, and many of them were subjected to slave labor including the children. Moreover, the jobs that they did were not only poor paying but also had no incentives since there were huge financial barriers erected including the ability to obtain finances (Harris, 2017). The fact that the black community was segregated through denial to access to quality healthcare which led to high mortality rates as well as lowered life expectancy also explains adds onto the discriminative barriers erected by the whites.

Improvements which occurred in interracial marriage and school segregation which attest to the persistence of racial segregation in any of the three areas.

Recent research studies show that interracial marriages are on the rise in the United States. Ideally, this indicates that intergroup relations have taken a shift. In the 21st century,

However, the problems associated with interracial couples have often resulted to negative social attitudes especially concerning interracial relationships (Roberts, 2017). The black-Caucasian unions, for example, have the lowest frequency of occurrence following their negative attitude regarding interracial marriages. Hate and rebellion have consequently resulted leading to increased divorces. Ideally, this has made interracial unions controversial making many people from different races to have fear in engaging in such relationships (Spring, 2016).

Despite the many opportunities that education has availed including scholarships which integrate different races, racial segregation in campuses has nevertheless continued to persist. Though students get to attend same classes, they do not socialize freely with students from other races. When it comes to the selection of scholarships, discrimination is still actively practices and special favors given to students entering to a particular country or race (Noblit, 2015). Ideally, this goes without saying that there are some schools which do not admit students from a specific region, race or nation. Mainly, this has spread over to the job sector where despite reforms, particular qualifications have been imposed to cut off people from a specific affiliation.
