Transition of world from an oil dependent society to the one without oil seems to be kind of impossible if thought given, today in 21st century we are so dependent on oil and gas that a day without using the same seems to be so impossible to survive be it for any reason like transportation, construction, entertainment, development etc. it is not about any one country in particular, if viewed globally there are countries around the globe whose economy and tourism both are totally oil economy driven and brings the biggest chunk of economy through trading of oil and gas like middle east countries and then comes the countries who uses oil and fuel in other ways to support their country in forms of transportation, tourism, construction, entertainment and many more ways.
Shifting from oil to any other energy source is a great idea but cannot be assured that it would be the best decision ever because shifting from oil not only will affect a country’s economy rather it will affect everything throughout the world mainly the international trade and tourism. Today if taken tourism into consideration no matter how eco-friendly or beautiful the location but it cannot be developed without use of oil and that location will never be considered as a good tourism destination if it is not accessible through air, road or rail routes and eventually all these modes of transportation are highly dependent on oil and gas,
The alternate for oil and gas can be solar energy or use of lithium ion batteries than again in future one day the world will feel scarcity and need to save lithium ion and will have to look for any other energy source again but still that will not affect the world as bad the fuel and gas does, but again the use of solar, wind and lithium energy might be much costly and would not support the economy of the countries who do not have better access to all this type of energy. For example, if solar and wind energy has to be tried in country like Canada and specially in a destination like Niagara falls where summer and springs exists only for hardly 5-6 months rest all the times its either snowing or it remains cloudy and there are most of the countries who has same issue and then only option left with them today is use of oil and fuel until and unless any other source of affordable energy develops.
Oil and gas affects tourism industry in various ways and so will the transition from oil dependent to oil free society will have on the tourism for example:
Transportation - roadways, railways, airways and waterways all are a major part of tourism industry today and all these industries are highly dependent on oil but at the same time if the idea of operated vehicles or ancient vehicles used at the tourist destination or one with the lowest emission and high oil efficiency will introduce a great idea for the tourism industry.
Development - construction and development of a location needs a high amount of oil operated heavy machinery but at the same time use of manpower or battery-operated machinery can be a better idea.
Tourist destination near to water areas and sea or one on the high altitude can also give a thought about wind energy and solar energy too which can be the most cost efficient as well as the best example of oil free society.
Development of eco-friendly lodge and suites where the use of oil and gas operated vehicles are restricted and only the battery-operated or use of animals for moving of tourists and things are done.
In a nutshell, the idea of oil free society is a great thought but at the same time it needs a global support and efforts to bring into existence.
