Ever since I started getting heavily involved in my dad’s business, I have been very eager to learn more about the business world. The perception of being your own boss, or working things your own way had always made me voracious to work harder towards getting into an excellent business school and getting my MBA. After I get a substantial amount of experience, I will have plans to open up my own business or expand my dad’s company. Having worked in a family business, I have a momentous amount of knowledge of a business’s daily tasks and concerns. Alongside this, I have developed tremendous analytical and communications skills which are both crucial parts in the business world. I see myself graduating with an MBA, taking on this career and making a lot of money.

A Business Operations Manager is the go-to person on the job, since they make important decisions and control many aspects of the company. Business Operations Managers help companies meet their goals by hiring employees, negotiating contracts, addressing budget matters, understanding the entire business’ operations, and guiding employees in teamwork projects. They also evaluate and make decisions about what customers are likely to buy and they create company policies to ensure an efficient-running business. Business operations managers work in excellent office setup with numerous support staff. They are exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable on a weekly basis because of the workplace. Long work hours, late evenings, and work on weekends is common for operations managers and they spend a considerable amount of time traveling. This is a very high-pressure job and involves handling a lot of stressful situations. There is immense pressure on operations managers to succeed as their individual success has a direct bearing on the organization’s success. Many people currently working as business operations managers will quit, retire, or start their own businesses. Often when operations managers quit, they are easily hired by other organizations in the same role. This trend limits the number of new positions created for operations managers. Experienced operations managers, with a distinguished list of accomplishments demonstrating their efficiency, will always be the most sought after.

Operations managers can move to become top executives. They might even become members of the board of directors. Senior managers, often, move on to start their own businesses. Business operations managers are one of the highest paid professionals. The average salary $69, 481 per year in Canada. However, this figure might vary depending on the industry and size of the organization. Other benefits offered to operations managers include stock options, performance bonuses, profit sharing, health and dental insurance, sick leave, paid vacations, and retirement savings plan.

Most business operations managers have at least a bachelor's degree in a business related field and many of them have a master’s degree. Some business operations managers have a degree and not much work experience, while others have relatively little formal education but a lot of relevant experience since this all depends on if the employer thinks you’ll be a good fit based on your combination of experience and education. UBC offers a very efficient Bachelor and Master of Management Dual Degree which can be completed in just 4. 5 years. In this program, you will study subjects like accounting, finance, marketing, and strategic management, and get personalized professional development advice to help you turn your passion into a profession. Some general admission requirements would be to have a final grade of 70% in grade 11 or grade 12 English and to graduate high school with a minimum average of 70%. SFU also offers the Beedie School of Business Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree, which combines applied problem-solving and hands-on experience with a foundation in contemporary business principles and practices. Secondary school applicants are required to have an English 12 course with a minimum final blended grade of 70%. It is also required to have a minimum of 5 Grade 12 courses, including English 12, from SFU's approved course list.

The life of a business operations manager seems very busy but comes with a lot of advantages such as becoming good at working under pressure and being on the top to lead a group of people to something you think will be beneficial. The great feeling of being a leader would abound in this career, and I prognosticate that this will lead me to go to great lengths in the future. Although there is going to be an abundance of stress, I feel like it is worth the drudgery of doing a dual degree. Even if I decide not to follow these career, I will still be able to use my MBA for a large selection of careers, so overall I am still very avid to follow this path of business.
