My academic and personal achievements have been a great part of my life. Getting to be in Link, Restorative Justice and Student Leadership, I have learned a lot. My personal achievements have ranged from being president of Venturing Crew to getting job interviews to beating thyroid cancer. These achievements have influenced my life by bettering me as a person and making me work harder to achieve bigger successes.
I am thankful that I live in a society where school is an opportunity for everyone in this country. School is my biggest achievement. Link crew has shown me great leadership skills by allowing me to help the incoming freshman and be a role model. Freshman should be looking up to their upperclassman and should also have someone they know they can go and talk to if they are having issues or just need a chat. Restorative Justice has given me dedication I get to help other kids solve a problem that they are having, I know nothing about from the start but I stick with it and push through the issues to help them solve their problems, pushing my own problems and feelings out of the way. I have to change the whole mindset of two people who dislike each other to get them to be civil to one another. Restorative justice is just like student leadership. Student leadership takes an open mind. You have to think of so many ways to help the school and better everyone in it, including teachers and yourself. In order to better everyone I have to be open minded to the way people learn and behave. I have to think of where people are coming from and why they do what they do. My goal in school is to make the best of it while helping others.
Outside of school is an entire different world. Outside of school I battle with my health, being president of Venturing crew and trying to be a leader for the individuals around me. Thyroid cancer has completely changed my perspective on life. It has caused me to want more control over my life because when you have cancer it’s mostly up to doctors on what happens. It has caused me to want to better my life and go out an adventure things I have never done or seen before. Thyroid cancer has made me a better person. Being Venturing crew president has shown me that I need to take a stand in what happens in my life. If I want to do something I will do it and I will help others around me to achieve that goal in their life. Being a president of a club or crew means you also have to be a leader. A leader is someone who really gives it their all and will help the people around them to also be successful in life, like a job interview. In order to get an interview you have to be exceptional on the application process. But getting threw the interview is one of the toughest parts of getting a job. I had to sit down with a total stranger to talk about strengths and weaknesses that I have while my social anxiety was telling me I was wrong, that I said the wrong thing. I pushed through that anxiety and got a great job teaching children how to swim.
With everything that has gone on in my life I am glad that I am making the best out of it. All of these achievements will be used during my college career making me a hardworking student, who fights my battles and does what I have to do. I will use what I know to help me through college and towards my career. Everything that has gone on has made me a better person and is going to make me a hard working student.
