The Role of Networking in My Personal and Professional Growth

Networking is an essential component of success in today's world, serving as a vital currency in both personal and professional realms. As an extrovert, I find it natural to build long-lasting relationships that foster growth and development. My journey in networking and management began between 2011 and 2013, a transformative period when I combined my passion for radio hosting with my medical background to raise awareness about health and nutrition.

Foundations of My Networking Journey

During my time at 99.9 FM, the highest-ranking radio station in Yemen, I seized the opportunity to expand my network. This experience paved the way for my role at Tayramana FM, Yemen's first English radio channel. Here, I initiated discussion panels on stigmatized topics such as gender equality, women's rights, and violence against children. These discussions not only helped establish a connection with listeners but also allowed me to gather vital information, generate new ideas, and deliver them creatively—significantly enhancing my networking capabilities.

Professional Development Through Networking

In the following year, I was recruited by the CEO of the radio station to serve as an Assistant Coordinator at the Rights of Empowerment and Development (R.E.D) Foundation in Yemen. My responsibilities included organizing fundraising campaigns for various NGOs to launch development programs for children and women across Sanaa, particularly focusing on education for aspiring young girls. Despite facing significant challenges due to the country's instability, we successfully raised enough funds and established networks with cooperating embassies and business owners.

Conferences and International Exposure

Since 2017, I have attended numerous conferences that have enriched my knowledge and kept me updated on modern medical practices. Notably, I participated as the youngest delegate at Sidra's 2nd Annual Women’s Health Conference in Infertility and Reproductive Health held in Qatar. Interacting with international delegations and esteemed professionals from around the globe was initially intimidating, but I overcame my apprehension and formed connections with remarkable individuals.

Building a Global Network

This experience allowed me to cultivate a robust network of world-class consultants and researchers, leading to the formation of a discussion panel. This platform serves as an effective means for rapidly disseminating ideas and information regarding infertility and improving reproductive health in Sudan. Currently, I work as a Medical Officer at the Federal Police Hospital, specializing in reconstructive surgery. Collaborating with one of Khartoum’s top plastic surgery specialists, Dr. Waleed Alamine, has provided me with invaluable insights into reconstructing traumatic and genetic defects. As his protégé, I have forged lasting relationships with fellow specialists, further inspiring me to pursue a Master’s Degree in Global Health.

Community Engagement and Volunteer Work

In addition to my professional endeavors, my involvement with the SCC (Star Charity Cupboard) from 2017 to 2018 showcased the importance of networking in community service. As part of a national volunteer team, I played a crucial role in distributing essential supplies to underprivileged communities during Ramadan. Our team utilized social media as a recruitment tool, allowing us to mobilize a larger number of volunteers to cover a broader area.
