For a detailed analysis of the role of social networks, it is worth considering the current situation in the world of politics: Social media in the United States presidential election, 2016/ How Donald Trump Used Social Media to Become the 45th President of the U.S.
Donald Trump was perhaps one of the most provocative presidents in recent times, creating a strong divide within the country as there seemed to be very few people who felt only moderate feelings for him. Nevertheless, he managed to gain enough votes to take the post of the 45th president of the United States of America. How?
Many experts believe that the effective use of social media by Trump helped him to get into the Oval Office. Even he himself noted the key role of social media in his victory. I find it tremendous. It’s a modern form of communication. There should be nothing we should be ashamed of. I really believe, that the fact that I have such power in terms of numbers with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, et cetera, I think it helped me win all of these races where they’re spending much more money than I spent. And I won. I think that social media has more power than the money they (democrats) spent, and I think maybe to a certain extent, I proved that.
SOME OF THE WAYS TRUMP USED THE POWER OF SOCIAL MEDIA TO WIN THIS PAST U.S. PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION:
The presence of Donald Trump on social media has attracted attention worldwide since he joined Twitter in March 2009. Trump has frequently used Twitter and other social media to comment on politicians and celebrities, and he relied on Twitter significantly to communicate during the 2016 United States presidential election.
The Trump presidential campaign benefited from large numbers of supporters who were active on social media from the beginning of the campaign.
Now around the person of Trump caused a huge excitement, especially his account on Twitter. The president expresses active dissatisfaction with the media. He calls certain publications sources of fake information.
It is worth noting that many experts and critics of the political arena believe that Trump is excessively emotional, in matters of the media and North Korea. It also often uses the sarcastic method of saying, accepting an opponent's depreciation.
Trump already had a name and brand before the election, but he knows what attributed to his popularity, and that was social media. So, he went all-in and rode the social media wave to a victory. He sure made a lot of enemies and pissed a lot of people off, but he also fed the supporters. He knew what they wanted to hear and he wasn’t afraid to say it.
