The Root of Colorism: a Historical and Societal Analysis

Why is there still racism also known as colorism? In some ways, it’s super simple. People learn to be whatever their society and culture teaches them. We often assume that it takes parents actively teaching their Kids, for them to be racist. This is not the product of some deep-seated, evil hearted that is cultivated. It comes from the environment, the air all around us. What started racism? Slavery arose and became part of dominant part of society in the context of the African slave trade at the dawn of capitalism in the 1500s and 1600s. Slavery started racism because whites would beat and kill blacks with no consequences and when slavery stopped whites just kept going and getting away with anything involving blacks.

What started the racial & tension between other races? It was the past.
