In this day and age, due to more freedom of speech being available in many parts of the world, many different schools of thought exist. These schools of thought range from the very extreme to what would be considered to be relatively normal in the eyes of the majority. I consider myself to be a very open-minded individual when it comes to the different political points of views that exist. I believe that I have the ability and willingness to explore the political points of view of those with whom I do not agree with because of my open-mindedness, my leadership qualities, and my ability to see the ‘big picture.’
I am a very open-minded individual, my family taught me to never be very judgmental of others. I was scolded if I ever showed any indication otherwise. As a result, I have carried this attitude with me most of my life. I do not knit pick at details and instead try to look at things from another’s perspective. I have found that even for those whom you truly disagree with, if you can ‘put yourself in their shoes’ or imagine what it would be like to have the experiences that they have had in life it becomes much easier to be open to their points of view.
Further, my leadership qualities support my willingness to explore the political points of views of others. As a leader, in any situation, whether it being in a political field or otherwise you cannot possibly hope to sway the views of others or to lead with fairness if you cannot understand those who you are attempting to lead. I am a good communicator so that I can get my ideas across very well, but in addition I am also a good listener so that I can absorb all of the ideas that are being put on the table. I am respectful to others and open to change, fearing change as a leader would make one a terrible leader since a leader should always be one to implement change for the good. And I am always interested in feedback, whether it be positive or negative, both are very important in terms of moving forward and gaining more knowledge and experience.
Lastly, I am able to see the bigger picture when it comes to an issue. It is hard not to choose once side based upon political beliefs and the experiences we have had in life. However, I am not a restricted to staying on one side of the spectrum. I can very easily, through learning and knowledge (gaining more insight into an issue) switch sides or find a compromise that would satisfy both sides. This is because I realize that everything is not black and white, there will always be a grey area. There will always have to be compromise. Applying this to political views it becomes much easier for me to, not necessarily agree with someone, but to be open to try and understand where they are coming from.
In conclusion, I believe that these are the things that help me to not be close-minded when it comes to others political points of view. I believe that everyone should have these qualities or qualities similar to this. If everyone did have qualities like this it would be much easier to get issues solved, rather than putting them on hold because people of two different belief systems cannot agree. Future political leaders should evaluate themselves to make sure that thy have at least one of these qualities before determining that they are fit to be a part of the government.
