Does High School really matter? What about Math, Foreign Languages, Gym classes? Whether you believe it or not, High School holds a stupendous moment in your life. We attend high school to obtain the skills and instructions needed to live a self-governing and victorious life. Whatever you want to become in life, whether its a dancer to a president, you’ll cross paths with everything you have learned in high school. To make your high school experience more relevant to your future you will need to surround yourself with successful people, take courses that can prepare you for your future career, become more involved in extracurricular activities, and manage your time wisely.

'Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned'?

Surrounding yourself around productive people in high school can help you learn the right set of groups for you in the future. Encircle yourself around ambitious people, people that are inspiring you to do better, and people that are on the same mission as you. Be on the lookout that another's demeanor can be contagious and rub off on you. Once you have allowed negative energy to penetrate into your life, you will soon hurt yourself, which will eventually affect everyone that surrounds you. In addition to that, in high school, there are a huge number of negative people that has no drive and expect you to fail with them but if you learn now in high school how to deal with such acts like that then it can help prepare you for obstacles similar to that in the real world. For example, in the future, you may come across a large amount of diversity and in that time of need you'll need someone that’ll motivate you, support you and enliven you, it’ll feel wonderful to look over into your corner and see that positive person that can uplift you. With that being said, choose your company judiciously. Be persistent with surrounding yourself with those who bring out the principal in you. Your drive in life builds upon that and while you’re at it, have the courage to be an outstanding friend to those who appoint you.

Take courses that will benefit you in the future. “Students should first think through their career plans and whether they want to go to a 2-year college, four-year college, the military or straight to the workforce after graduation” (Heckman 1). After that, students can sort out which classes will best prepare them for their intended path. If you do not take the courses needed or are interested in then during your next journey you're going to be confused on what is it that you have a heart for. For example, I specifically knew what my desire was in 9th grade, my school didn't give courses pertaining to it until my 11th grade year. I feel like I'm behind in my major but classes I was lacking in like English, that is extremely consequential to Mass Communications, just helped me focus for on that particular subject. So as you are in high school choose your classes according to your future plan because if you do not then you will end up teaching yourself to catch up.

Involving yourself in extracurricular activities can teach you life discipline. For example, team sports tutor students to work as a team to solve problems and achieve a common goal in more practical ways than a typical classroom environment can. High-endurance sports, for instance, will upskill students to sustain patience and resilience in the face of severe difficulty. Athletics of all types gives high schoolers hands-on experience with the type of discipline, focus, and preparation that lead to success in the real world. As a high school athlete, showing up late or missing a practice resorts to direct consequences such as running laps or losing playing time. Whereas in college you may not have a coach to hold you directly responsible, but the consequences are just as dire. Fail to go to class in college, and you could be looking at a failing grade, loss of scholarship or any number of academic repercussions. Everybody is human and makes mistakes so maybe your boss for a slight bit will tolerate your tardiness but it will not be acceptable if it becomes habitual. Coaches and teammates invariably hold you to a high standard of being present and on time every day, is a great way to build the habits of timeliness, punctuality, and consistency that will be vital to your success in the long run.

Throughout your four years of high school, things are going to get exciting, thrilling, memorable — and, not to mention, exhausting. From all of the tests to all the projects, its surprising that anyone can find time to relax and sleep. Balancing your classes, homework, and activities takes some organization, which you will be refining the rest of your life. Finding a healthy balance is often the key to success. Students tend to lose sleep to stay up studying for a test, little do they know, students who sacrifice sleep for additional study time are more likely to have difficulty understanding lessons taught in class and even on tests. In high school, you practice managing your time wisely by using the correct hours to study, doing homework, keeping track of all your work from different subjects, and giving yourself the right amount of time to relax your mind. Time ahead will become more overwhelm because now you have bills, spouse, children, and work about but if you developed those skills in high school then when that time comes it won't be hard.
