I have been born and raised in Tucson Arizona, home of wildcats. I have always wanted to assist the University of Arizona, since the beginning of my high school years. Being the first person in my family to assist college, made picking the University of Arizona as my college to pursue my career. the University of Arizona offers a great Family Studies and Human Development major, that has set me up for planning ahead in considering my lifelong career.
Since a very young age, I have always known that the one thing I've always wanted to do with my life is help people, more specifically children. I have always been captivated, and intrigued by the interactions, and evolution of human beings. More specifically, the growth and development of children into adulthood, which is what has drawn me to the FSHD major.
My interest in working with children and learning how they develop comes from growing up with two younger sisters. One of whom suffered with Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. Being the oldest sister with two working parents, taking care of my sister was a huge day to day challenge. Every day was an unforeseeable day, one day she was calm, relaxed and tranquil. While the next day, she was super active, impulsive and aggressive. I was forced to having to come up with solutions on how to deal with each situation and be able to overcome the challenge for a day, until the next day came again. Having this experience in my life is one of the many reasons why I found interest in Family Studies and Human Development. Not only focusing on children with disability but with every child in general, because every child is different, and unique. The development and behavior of each one of them is influenced by many factors, and that is what I find fascinating.
Although working with children is one of the things I am the most positive about doing. I am not quite set on a specific job specific career just yet. Being an FSHD student has definitely introduced to me to the extensive ways in which I am able to pursue a career working with children. Two of the career paths that I have been debating over are a family therapist or a child specialist.
As an FSHD student, I really hope to find my career of choice with all the options I have been introduced to. I have also been fortunate enough to gain knowledge on just the human development, but also about the human's close relationship’s including marriage. I believe that having an education is of great importance, especially having an education in a field that you will make a career out of because you will essentially be dealing with other people’s issues. Having an education also gives you credibility, which gives the people you are working with trust in what you are doing or telling them. Most importantly education gives you opportunities and open's doors to be able to do whatever you put your mind to and be successful.
My FSHD major will give me the opportunity to further my career and assist graduate school. After graduation assisting graduate school is definitely my plan. My program of interest would have to be a program that will reinforce my knowledge on the growth and development of children, which will lead me to either becoming a family therapist or a child specialist. I have always felt a connection to children. My FSHD major will allow me to focus on the different type of theories in accordance to a child's development, but most importantly the ways in which family and society play a part in their evolution throughout their lifespan. I intend to use my interest in children and degree to be able to educate those who need support and be able to address their needs for their benefit and well-being.
