The Reasons Why I Opted for Precision in Every Aspect of My Life

Precision is an intellectual standard that comes in to play in all aspects of my life on pretty much a daily basis. Although it is used differently between work, school and my personal life, it is a major piece that cannot be ignored. Without precision I may not have a job, I could flunk out of school and who knows where I’d be in my personal life.

As a Corrections Officer, I am responsible for the care, custody and control of both sentenced and pre-sentenced inmates. When inmates become out of control and physical action must be used in order to regain control, a method called “use of force” comes in to effect. Whether it is a planned cell extraction or a spontaneous take down maneuver, precision is not only important to ensure the safety of everyone including the inmate, it must be legally taught tactics and must be considered a justified action. If these tactics are not applied precisely, the possibility of injury increases. If the wrong techniques are used, “excessive force” could result in legal action against the department and the Officers involved and jobs can be lost. Our facility is swarming with video surveillance cameras and hand held cameras are also used when they can be. Review of the cameras helps to ensure that our reports are as precise as possible when telling the story of what occurred. If video does not match up with reports we could be charged with falsifying documents.

In school, precision is essential to earn a passing grade. Many assignments are written in every class. Although they may vary in length and topic, if you are using incorrect data or information it doesn’t matter how good it looks. Knowledge obtained is class is assessed through tests, and if you cannot precisely answer the question asked of you, your grade will reflect your work.

Being a husband and a father of two children, precision is very important in many ways. I am the type of person who likes to mix stuff together and call it dinner. My wife on the other hand would rather open a box and throw something in the oven for an hour or two. Either way, if they are not done correctly, dinner is a disaster. Taste tests throughout the cooking process helps me to find that perfect flavor that I am looking for. I have made many things on the fly that have turned out very well thanks to using the correct ingredients paired with the right amount of seasonings. Too much or too little can ruin your end result.

As you can see, my life is run by precision. In order to keep my job, earn good grades and feed my family, I must do everything correctly with as little error as possible.
