Would you like to eat cold hamburgers, vegetables that taste like they’ve been sitting out for at least 2 hours and stale French fries all put together on a lunch tray? I know I wouldn’t. In all seriousness, we strongly dislike the food schools supply us with. Half of the time, the school doesn’t serve us enough food and they sometimes run out. So, to solve this “students should be allowed to leave campus for lunch”. Granting students permission to leave campus for lunch promotes healthier food choices, demonstrates great responsibility on the students’ part, and reduces risk of allergic reactions.
When schools don’t allow students to leave and get their own lunch, they are putting their students at risk of having an allergic reaction. The cafeteria doesn’t know what everyone is allergic to. Not only does the cafeteria not know, but also the teachers and the many other students that attend the school. 1 of 13 students have a food allergy, if we could give that one person a choice to go home or to a restaurant for lunch, they wouldn’t have to worry about ever having an allergic reaction.
Independence plays a huge role in empowering students to leave school grounds because they have the choice to either stay or leave. They have a choice of which restaurant they want to go for example, McDonalds or either Zaxby’s. Some may say allowing students to leave campus can result into obesity, but it won’t because it will also allow them to make a choice of eating healthy.
Allowing students to leave campus for lunch could show teachers that they are responsible enough to leave and comeback on time. It is a great moment for students to have the ability to leave campus for lunch because they are of age to make their own decisions and are responsible to make it back to school on time ready for their 3rd block. Most would disagree that students are irresponsible, but research says 95% of students can use this ability responsibly. For elementary and middle school students, this reward should be controlled if or when they are able to leave school grounds for lunch.
Given these points, allowing students to leave campus for lunch is important because not all students like eating the food that public schools supply us with. Some may argue that students shouldn’t be allowed to leave campus for lunch. To act we could go to the principal who is in charge and have all in favor sign a petition.
