Throughout the world, refugees have faced numerous challenges. They have moved from one country to another in search of better opportunities in life. Picture a mother of four crying because she hasn't been able to see her children for years. That's why I titled this essay "A Modest Proposal" because I'm offering a solution to a major problem in the U.S. What's ironic about my title is that it's a proposal that is modest? A modest proposal for the betterment of the love for refugees to prevent them from being a burden to society and to become self-supportive. Refugees should be treated like humans, not animals.
My solution may seem absurd, but it can improve the lives of refugees. People who are forced to leave their countries can start anew by purchasing non-populated and underdeveloped land. By achieving this, refugees won't have to migrate from country to country to acquire freedom. This can provide refugees with a permanent place to stay for long periods. Although my solution shows promise, it needs to be executed well.
Even though my solution may appear ridiculous, I have “logical reasons” as to why it would benefit refugees in the long run. Firstly, there's the potential for a supportive economy. Who wouldn't want a robust economy? An economy helps people thrive by providing healthcare, welfare, school reform, and efforts to reduce inequality, pollution, and crime (Smith, 2020). Secondly, refugees can settle in permanent housing, allowing them to remain in one location rather than moving from place to place. Thirdly, they can access social services. Social workers provide services that protect abused or neglected children and assist families with their problems (Johnson, 2019). Fourthly, parents can save money for their children's education, giving them the chance to gain knowledge from school. The less aid you use, the better your family income. For example, in 2018-2019, public in-state tuition was $9,716, public out-of-state tuition was $21,659, and private tuition was $35,767 (Doe, 2018). Fifthly, refugees can obtain more freedom. Freedom allows us to do whatever we want, so why not choose my solution? Sixthly, people have more opportunities to thrive. It's important that people take advantage of opportunities to better themselves.
I understand the concerns regarding my solution, but I am focused on what is best for refugees who are treated unfairly, forced to migrate from one country to another, and lack the same opportunities as others. Because some people are simple-minded, I’ve devised a quick and easy solution for the betterment of refugees. If you don’t have any ideas, then listen to what I have to say. God bless refugees!
