“If we accept that a mother can kill her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill each other? Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, rather, to use violence to get what they want”. Abortion is the ending of a pregnancy by removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus before it can survive outside the uterus. Abortion can also be done when the fetus already has a heartbeat, the mother legally has the right to abortion up to her 28th week of pregnancy, thats over half of the time the baby spends in the womb. Abortion should be banned in the United States because it is committing murder. Everyone has different opinions on this controversial subject, so following that, why abortion should be banned? In this essay we will see if we can consider abortion as a murder or a regular women right.

Why Abortion Should (or Not) Be Banned: Argumentative Essay

Everything goes back to biblical times, including abortion. “A pregnant woman who is injured and aborts the fetus warrants financial compensation only (to her husband), suggesting that the fetus is property, not a person”. That is only one of the many scriptures from the Bible about abortion. The rest of the scriptures all include the words “life” and “property”, saying that life is a gift from God and is not a piece of property. God says that we are all perfectly and wonderfully made, so why would you get rid of that perfect thing. It’s not just Christianty that believes abortion is a sin, Hinduism believes it is an act of violence.

The mother knows exactly what she is doing, there are many different forms of contraception, such as birth control, a condom and cervical caps. Every woman and man know about these things and know the risks they are taking when having unprepared sexual intercourse. If the mother did not want the child in the first place, then she should have used some sort of contraception. For example, I met a girl who got pregnant in highschool because she didn’t use any contraceptives, she knew what she was doing when she did it. Some girls are just so obsessed with the thought of being a mother at such a young age or having “baby fever” they forget all about the struggles of motherhood, and when they realize it’s too much for them, they abort the baby. According to U.S. Statistics 86% of women getting abortions are unmarried, and women between the ages of 15 and 19 are accounted for 10% of all abortions.

Within the United States 1,300,000 abortions occur every year, that means 1,300,000 little lives that matter are taken every year. Instead, women can simply have their baby and put it up for adoption if she feels like she cannot take care of it herself. It would overall give the baby, and the parents that adopt it a better, happier life. Not to mention there are some long term effects of abortion. For example, some women end up with substance abuse problems, cancer, infertility, psychological disorders and sexual dysfunction. The short term effects of getting an abortion are abdominal swelling, pelvic infection, uterine perforation, excessive bleeding, incomplete abortion, cervical tears, and in extreme cases, death.

A lot of people say that abortion should be legal in the cases of rape victims, yes a terrible thing did happen, but that child still deserves to live a happy, healthy life no matter what. The child did nothing wrong and aborting the child because of that is the same as aborting a child because you had unprotected sex. In fact less than 5% of abortions are because of rape.

There are also such things as medical abortions. For example, Tim Tebow’s mother was told by her doctor to abort him. The doctors said that he wasn’t even a baby, he was a tumor. Tim’s mother then decided to not get the medical abortion and trust in God, the placenta wasn’t even attatched the entire pregnancy, yet Tim Tebow was born. Another example is when my friends mother, who was extremely religious, got pregnant. At first everything looked normal until they couldn’t find a brain in the ultrasound, but there was still a heart and a heartbeat. The baby wouldn’t be able to live and would be severely deformed and maybe even cause complications with the pregnancy that could possibly kill the mother. Sadly she had to get an abortion.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there are 1.3 million many innocent children being murdered each and every day in the United States, that one too many. There is never a reason to get an abortion unless the baby turns out to just be a mass or a tumor and does not have a heart or brain. Abortion is a sin in God’s eyes, He gives you this chance at a baby, a baby that not everyone can have, a baby that can easily be put up for adoption instead of murdered. You can also use forms of contraceptives to keep you from getting pregnant in the first place so you don’t have to make a decision about a child. If we continue to let abortions stay legal, families that are looking to adopt may not be able to, more women may have phsycological issues, and more innocent babies will be murdered.
