Absences and late arrivals has increased at Baton Construction to over seventy percent over the past five years. In, 2017 there was a total average of ten days per employee that was a result of child related causes. We are already almost to that with only quarter of the fiscal year completed. The projected outcome will double by the end of the year. This causing projects and budgets to become either uncompleted or behind by a lot.Employees with reliable child care resources bring higher degree of employee engagement, productivity, and loyalty. Even some co-workers are supportive of the idea of child care at the workplace, due to the fact it makes it feel more humanized. I propose that to decrease the total average of absences per employee, Baton Construction implement a day care center.
The Costs of child care in the United States is high. On average child care in home cost about $28,354 and for in-center care is $8,589(Julia Beck 1). Only seven percent of companies nationwide off a child care center. A great deal of employees often uses child care as a reason they are unable to come to work.According to Lauren Smith Brody, new mothers that she has interviewed have worried about how much their salary would be after all the money spent on child care (Julia Beck 1). This has caused them to not take their full maternity leave before they are physically and emotionally ready.More than sixty percent of us women work for pay, on the contrary women leave jobs due to home issues including child care. Most of the family income raises have been due to women working. Parents that do not have a reliable source of childcare have higher rates of absenteeism due to child care(Millennial Voice 1).
If, child care was offered at work parents would be more engaged into their jobs.Proposed Solution for AbsenteeismThe benefits of regular, reliable day care for employees and companies are compelling. To achieve these benefits at Baton Construction, I propose that we choose from one of two possible options: build day care centers at our facilities or offer employees several options for child care.Child Care CenterBuilding a child care center would require that Baton Construction purchase the land and building in the adjacent lot. To accommodate the outdoor area and kitchen and a classroom area would require a minimum of 4,000 square feet.
At headquarters and at the regional offices, our human resource staff would need to be available and have the correct knowledge each workday to provide supportive information for our employees. Day care staff can be hired locally. The Buildings and Maintenance Department staff would clean and maintain the facilities.Explanation of proposed solutionOffering an in care center for all employees can help reduce company absenteeism. We would offer the best option for our employees. We would operate 365 days a year expect for national and religious holidays. Most important, our day care center will be adjacent to our home office. Our staff are trained and certified in child care and CPR and will design learning programs for our employees. They will offer learning classes for all ages, taught by certified instructors. Our facilities will provide an outdoor playground, toys, nap area, kitchen, and an area for parents to have lunch with their child.
Baton Construction would offer a full range day care center that will include corporate discounts. The basic price of $6,000 per year includes the following:
Employees purchase memberships on their own and they can be found at human resources. Conclusion and Recommendation I recommend that Baton construction building the day care center. By offering day care to employees, Baton Constructions shows its commitment to the importance of an enjoyable and reliable workforce. Our day care center would allow all employees at Baton Construction to participate in the program. The more employees who participate, the greater the long-term of less absent employees of Baton construction. Building and equipping a day care center would require an initial investment of over $1.2 million. This facility would also occupy valuable floor space on average, 4,000 square feet.
Providing employees, a day care program at Baton Construction would allow them to attend on basis. Those interested in continuing could join the day care center at any time. If an employee leaves the company, he or she would have to pay a fee of $3,000.Implementing this program will help Baton Construction, reduce its absenteeism while building stronger employee relations by offering employees a desirable benefit. If this proposal is adopted, I have some additional thoughts about publicizing the program to encourage employee participation. I look forward to discussing the details of this proposal with you and answering any questions you may have.
