Life of Immigrants in Canada

In Canada, hundreds of immigrants begin a new life. Most of them seek to make their life better. Approximately around 150,000 people settle in Canada each year. Each community in which refugees take shelter are different in their manner of welcoming them. Immigrants and refugees are from all round the world speaking all types of different languages. IIFP serves them with over fifteen languages. New comers are assisted in the process of settling down by a wide range of individuals and organizations.

Their first and the hardest task is to find a place to live and thereafter getting a job. Familiarizing themselves with the Canadian culture and their norms. To make it easy for them and to give them a better understanding, IIFP was established in Winnipeg. It motivated immigrants and refugees to participate in community economic and social development. This organization has accumulated considerable depth and breathe of experience in settlement services. Members working on voluntary basis participate in urban farming, healthy foods and nutritious workshops. Even without a consistent support from the government, the members have shown their utmost support and dedication. They possess extensive experience through which new comers become an integral part of society. IIFP should majorly lay emphasis on finding them a place to live and making them familiar with the local language. It will help getting them a job even more easy. The organization should encourage locals and various institutions to adapt themselves for the new members and offer them full opportunity to contribute the resources they bring with them.

The term “Integration” refers to the process through which refugees and immigrants become full and equal participants in all the various dimensions of society. It is a long process which could last for many years, if not generations. Individuals and communities may be integrated in few important aspects of life. Major factors that affect the immigrant's life choices are gender, age, skill level and experiences. While some are other factors such as people who come for asylum. IIFP should listen to them individually as all of them have suffered through various and different life experiences. Some of them might even be a worst as the violent death of a family member or they might have been abused their entire life.

Important steps should be taken to evaluate their mental health. There might be people suffering from depression, sleeping disorder or fatigue. A “Special Unit “should be assigned for this particular purpose. Some key areas in the development plan that need to be addressed by all immigrants and refugees are: - Gender Access to employment Cultural Orientation Qualification and experience Immigration status Instead of only just the farming project they should introduce many other projects as well. Those programs don’t need to be too different from the rest but it will help in expanding the helpful resources and in nourishment of more refugees. Spreading the positive message about the immigrants so people would feel an urge to help them as they will feel their problems and understand they are also human beings and no different then us. Revenue is what make a business run. In order to generate more revenue they should orgainze various strategic plans.

There are many different ways in order to do that. Encouraging more people to come forward. Seeking the help of government for motivation so that several institutions could come forward and show their support either financially or volunterally. Companies who could hire them should be presented with perspectives of how they gonna do the benefit in someone’s life. IIFP could carry out the survey regarding how much wage is enough for an immigrant person to make a livelihood in a certain community. For them to have a satisfactory life. Also differerent work timings and wage packages could be prepared for those who are disable by providing them with easy going work conditions but with enough work.
