My Passion to Study Accounting and Mathematics

Coming from a family of Accounting and Finance professionals, I have learned early in life the importance of money management, as well as maintaining a well-balanced life; thus I believe that ‘Life itself is like accounting, everything must be balanced’.

From a young age, I have been keenly interested in solving complex mathematical problems. The Abacus programme further enhanced my logical thinking and analytical skills. Not only am I passionate about numbers, but also passionate about sports, music, travel, and nature. This helps me to maintain a balance in life. My keen interest in the field of commerce fuelled my commitment and motivation to work harder. I enjoy studying the various aspects of financial statements including cash flow statements and the various costing procedures adopted by different companies. As I secured exceptionally good grades in the IGCSE, I decided to pursue these subjects in AS and A level. My understanding of the subject concepts leaves no doubt in my mind that a career in accounting and finance would bring out the best in me. With dreams of becoming a successfully certified accountant from the ICAEW, I plan to join my parent’s audit firm one day. The more I delve into this field, the more I wanted to learn about finance and accounting and its real-life applications. I have read books such as “The Intelligent Investor”, “Rich Dad Poor Dad” amongst other digital media which helped me to understand principles on how to be a smart investor and how to value money. These reading materials gave me a profound understanding of topics beyond relevant textbooks. I also gained valuable insights into aspects of life and how money and assets affect the whole world. Besides the theoretical information, I am interested in real life experiences and practical applications. By interning at various small and medium size firms, I gained hands-on experience. Undertaking job shadowing has imparted me with some vital aspects to be borne in mind when working in an organization. As I had to work alone often, I learned to think quickly, independently as well as explore new ideas.

In addition to this, I have taken part for two consecutive years in the Skyline University Business Talent Hunt. This competition focuses on areas such as designing and advertising of a new product, preparing a business plan for a new product enhanced my analytical and problem-solving skills: I was able to comprehend key aspects and components of how a business is set up and managed which is vital in today’s time. I am also actively involved in debating competitions both inside and out of school including the Model United Nations which has improved my communication skills and has made me better aware of the current situations and crisis around the world. I am actively involved in the senior prefect body which has improved my confidence, leadership skills and has made me more appreciative of varied perspectives. Furthermore, I am actively involved in humanitarian work and love serving my community by imparting computing knowledge to the less privileged and donating food and clothing to make a small impact in the society. As a sports enthusiast, I have contributed to my school’s list of accolades through various events such as discus throw, swimming, and basketball. These contributions have enhanced my team spirit skills. My sporting endeavors and sportsman spirit have helped me see life optimistically. My desire to study Accounting and Mathematics and make a difference comes from my deep-seated passion to unravel its mysteries. I strongly believe that your university will groom me and help me significantly in gaining knowledge from your teaching faculty. Additionally, I will be able to make the maximum use of your course resources and build on my analytical skills.

I believe that studying at your university alongside students who share the same ideas and passion as me, would not only be motivating but also give me the impetus to do better.
