I agree and disagree with David Zinczenko in the article “ Don’t blame the eater” that fast-food restaurants should not be blamed for children gaining weight. Zinczenko made valid points on how eating fast-food is unhealthy but is not the cause of obesity. Eating fast-food you are unaware of your intake in calories and calorie information is hard to read, but do not put the blame on the food, and think smarter when going to fast-food restaurants.
Fast-food industries are unhealthy and do not provide warning labels, and labels online or on the board are difficult to read. Fast-food restaurants are not required to provide any warning labels on their food. I believe all foods should contain a label providing easy to read no small print information on what is inside of my burger because a calorie intake is not enough. Chicken nuggets taste better than a salad but eating healthy with a salad you may believe your salad has fewer calories until you look at the fine print and realize those nuggets would have actually had fewer calories.
Children should not blame fast-food restaurants for their obesity when they are not forced to order from their restaurants. Fast-food industries have healthier choices than a double cheeseburger or chicken nuggets. When I was a child, we played all day and did not sit on video games or electronics all day. Children should be more active outside playing and interacting with other children, learning and having fun and active. Children who are inactive and eat fast-food a lot are less tempted to gain a large amount of weight than a child who sits and plays video games eating out all day. Parents can prepare a sandwich for on the go instead of constantly choosing the quick and easy way. Eating a sandwich from home is cheaper and healthier than eating out multiple times a day. If they choose to eat out than they should pick healthier options.
Children can eat out and still eat healthy, and choose not to. Zinczenko states it is easier to find a McDonalds than a grapefruit, and I agree with his statement, Moore County has several McDonalds, and you can go blocks without finding a grapefruit. Although you can make smarter choices when you have no choice like eating a chicken sandwich with no toppings than eating ten nuggets. Eat a salad with fewer toppings and grilled chicken on top, but watch the salad dressing because that will get you. I understand having to eat out like Zinczenko, I have had times I had to eat out, but I exercise and try to pick one of the healthy foods that are on the menu.
Zinczenko article “Don’t blame the eater” on how fast-food restaurants should not be to blame on child obesity is something I agree to disagree on. When eating fast-food you are unaware of what you are eating and labels they do give you are hard to read, put the blame should not be focused on fast-food industries, and you can think smarter when going to those types of places.
