Programming: The Way I See My Future 

Information Technology is a field that is ever changing and evolving. Ever since Information Technology was established it was made clear how this new field could benefit us and the many possibilities it could hold for mankind. Nowadays Information technology has been fully embraced by all and seamlessly integrated into our daily lives. I want to pursue a career in this field where I have the opportunity to improve and better society. The jobs I can envision my future self-working as are a Programmer, Web developer or a Software engineer. In the next section, we will introduce the many developments that may occur in the next five to ten years and some background on the previously mentioned fields.

Programming has become one of the most desirable skills to have when searching for employment in the tech industry. Programming can be applied to a wide range of sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, Computer Security, and Machine Learning just to mention a few and this is why knowing how to program is so important in today’s job market. As programming is a growing field many see the next logical step would be to introduce it in schools and universities (Rayome, 2018). This is why more and more universities are implementing programming as a mandatory course not only because of the better job opportunities, but the additional cognitive abilities that come with learning programming (Wang, X., Hwang, G., Liang, Z., & Wang, H. 2017). Machine learning is a field programming has greatly improved and machine learning is just a few years away from making the leap into our daily lives (Wayner, 2017). Another field that will develop even further due to programming is self-driving cars. Up until this point we have only seen a small portion of what autonomous vehicles can achieve. Self-driving cars are just a few algorithms away from being fully autonomous and my job in the future is to make that happen though programming. 

Cybersecurity is another field that will greatly develop in the near future but with every advancement in security, there are always going to be people who are looking to bypass it. This is why in the future programmers will be working closely with law enforcement to eradicate malicious content both on the computerized front and the real worlds front (Hooda, 2018). In order to circumvent such devious acts security workers will need to think like these criminals. This is where ethical hacking comes in to play. It comes done to simply performing like a hacker but for the correct reasons (Hooda, 2018). Artificial intelligence is one of the biggest leaps forward in Information Technology that programmers have helped to create even though it is not quite here at the moment it is just over the horizon and many speculate we could be living with Artificial Intelligence in the next five to ten years. Artificial Intelligence can be recognized by a few traits which are learning, planning, and problem-solving. As Fei-Fei Li said ‘I believe in the future of AI changing the world. The question is, who is changing AI? It is really important to bring diverse groups of students and future leaders into the development of AI’. That is why I believe Artificial Intelligence will improve our lives immensely and this is all possible through the power of programming. This is why I have chosen programming as one of the fields I would like to work in, in the future.
