Let’s all phase logistics, we’re all attending school, and we have a lot to worry about. On top of grades, teachers, and work loads, the last headaching issue we need to worry about while on campus is our safety. As we glance through the news, its countless stories that have occured due to a rise of firearm purchases, and a lack of gun safety in school throughout the nation.
Because of the increase of firearms in America, the rates of school shootings has increased. Schools these days should not only be educating students, but keeping them alert and safe as well; also, adding gun safety courses, and allowing permitted teachers to carry during school will allow teachers to educate and ensure a students safety during school hours.
How does an increase of firearm purchases throughout America, and deaths threaten educational systems? In 1994 the U.S had 65 million handguns, and present-day there’s now 118 million; also, this has caused more than 20,000 students to carry illegally owned guns in Chicago. More than 30,000 people are killed by guns yearly; and, students tend to suffer from stress due to family losses, which causes them to miss school. Between 2016-2018, an estimated 7.7 million Americans went from owning 2-4 guns to now having around 8-140 guns.
Arming School Teachers will change how school shootings affect education. The school shooting rates would decrease, because the shooter knows that the teachers would be firing back, and their “havoc” along with their existence will be put to rest. School shootings throughout the past few years to current day have made highschool graduate rates decrease. This would also provide schools with more intelligent security that knows the layout of the school, and it would relieve stress on teachers.
Due to Americas’ recent history of school shootings and mass firearm purchases, schools across the nation are implementing gun safety courses to show them the dangers of a firearm, and better prepare students for events, such as a school shooting. Along with many other doctors and professionals, Dr. Ebel, director of the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center at the University of Washington once stated, “If a child finds a ball, he will bounce it; and, if a child finds a gun, he would fire it.” Since 1998, the Eddie Eagle Gun safety program of the National Rifle Association has promoted firearm safety in schools and amongst youth groups.
The main points are if you see a gun:
“This won’t just prevent devastating school shootings, but it will also raise gun awareness world-wide if only the“new generation”makes the change.
As society we can’t deny the fact that there has been an increase in firearm purchases, and a massive increase in school shootings. A magical pill will not turn around gun safety laws and regulations within a matter of a few days, instead this will take many months and extreme manpower. It requires us as a whole, as the “new generation” to make a change by implementing more gun safety educational classes in schools to reinforce that guns aren’t like what you see on television, and arming our teachers and administrators as an extra line of defense.
