This article analysis makes a comparison between what the general public deem as the pros and cons to the fast food industry. The aim of this analysis is to go deeper into understanding the mind set of people in accordance to how they make their decision on whether or not to pick a healthy meal or go get some fast food.
The fast food industry is an ever growing industry which shows that more and more people favour cost savings and convenience over making the healthier choice.
There are many negative criticisms on the topic of fast food. The biggest being the health issues and just being the unhealthier choice in general. There are other cons to the fast food industry which involve the levels of animal cruelty, worker exploitation and other issues. With the rise in the fast food industry comes the rise of cholesterol and blood pressure, leaving the fast food topic a stressful one.
Another major topic against fast food is that people do not know what they are eating in terms of people finding foreign items in their meals. KFC amongst other fast food outlets have found to have a brain as well as having found rat meat and nail clippings in their meals. This brings an element of absolute disgust to the fast food game. This isn’t the first occurrence and definitely won’t be the last. We can only hope that we aren’t the ones to fall victim.
On the other hand, one cannot do a proper analysis without looking into the pros of the topic. The fast food industry is a growing one and is so for a specific reason. It obviously brings about positive aspects. One of the greatest being the amazing taste associated with eating fast food. Of course, that isn’t the only attraction. The extreme convenience that comes with having countless options and thousands of locations, the quick time – hence the name “fast food”- and so many other advantages making the choice a tastier one.
The unhealthy connotation associated with fast foods can also now fall away with most fast food outlets offering healthier options on their menus. Not only are there healthier options but there is such a wide variety of choices that one could make. This, in a sense, makes fast food the better option. The articles will be analysed further to demonstrate these findings.
Article 1 and 2 looks at the negative effects of fast food by looking at how people and animals are affected. Animals are deeply affected in terms of the large quantities of plastic produced for wrappings as well as animal testing and other activities performed that leads to the cruel treatment of animals. Workers are exploited and customers’ health put at risk. One can only ask if it is really worth it if it only leads to the cruel treatment of humans and animals. Article 1 also refers to how people lose their identity in terms of no longer favouring their cultural dishes.
Article 2 has a different approach but addresses the same issues. People have been made to eat things that they don t know that they are eating which, from the article, includes a brain. Other cases involving finding rat parts in KFC, worms in the meals at other outlets and even dead flies and other insects in customer meals have also been reported. This just shows that, us as the consumers cannot really trust fast food providers to ensure the best, quality meals all the time.
Articles 3 and 4 have a more positive approach to the industry. They both look at the pros and benefits that fast food brings. The biggest being the fact that it is a lot better on the pocket in terms of price. Another massive contributor to the leaning towards fast food is the convenience brought about by it. There are literally hundreds of fast food outlets to pick from all with their own menus of many meals. With having access to many outlets comes the time savings that it brings about and the convenience yet again.
Article 3 also mentions how fast food outlets have now started offering a better, healthier menu to its customers, in hopes of appealing to the health fanatics. This does counter the whole connotation with fast food – that it is so unhealthy and all of it leads to obesity. They are also now trying to appeal to them by offering calorie counts so people know exactly what they are taking in when they eat a fast food meal. This furthers leads to the assumption that the fast food industry is going green in terms of health and will broaden their market of customers. This also makes it a choice that can reoccur daily, just because its deemed as ‘not that bad’.
I believe that fast food restaurants shouldn’t even worry about having healthy foods in the industry as it destroys the concept of as so called ‘junk food’ and the amazing taste of it. I really love fast food like burgers and chips, chicken and chips with onion rings. There is no need for healthy food within the industry as it has no meaning for what the fast food industry has to offer in my opinion. I think that healthy foods such as a salad that is included in some of the meals should be completely taken away and leave the uniqueness of fast foods together.
