Did you know that 3 out of 10 prisoners are illegal immigrants? Illegal immigrants are beginning to fill our prisons as well as they are taking our jobs. Many illegal immigrants are paid much less than Americans because they are willing to work for a cheaper pay. This is in favor of their employer as well, so an illegal immigrant is more likely to get the job. In 2014, there were 11.1 million illegal immigrants in our country. That’s at least a few million jobs taken by illegal immigrants, so illegal immigration must be eradicated to give legal citizens their jobs back.
Illegal immigration burdens our country in quite a few ways. “...22 percent of felons are illegal immigrants.” according to the Maricopa County Police Department , in Maricopa. This quote means that especially in areas near the border, crime by illegal immigrants is greatly affected. This also means that illegal immigrants may be a danger to the American people. “Illegal alien drunk drivers kill 13 Americans every day.” Rep. Steve King of Iowa estimates. This quote means that if we took better care of our borders, we wouldn’t lose more American lives every day. We would also have safer roads for our legal citizens, instead of endangering others by allowing more illegals to come to this country. These are not the only dangers illegal immigrants pose.
Another issue that illegal immigrants bring is taking our American jobs. “Roughly 71 percent of GOP voters and 51 percent of unaffiliated voters said workers without work permits were taking jobs from American citizens, while 31 percent of Democrats said the same.” according to an article by the International Business Times. This means that our legal citizens are constantly worrying about their jobs being taken by undocumented immigrants. We cannot have our legal citizens worrying about illegals taking their jobs. “One recent estimate by researchers at the Pew Hispanic Center puts the number of illegal aliens in the workforce at 8 million out of an overall population of 11.2 million illegal aliens, i.e., 71.4 percent. That estimate is generally accepted as reasonable.” claims the Federation for American Immigration Reform. This tells us that we have 8 million illegal immigrants taking American jobs. This is also very bad because these illegals have to pay very little taxes since they are undocumented. Many Americans who live in poverty could be living in better standards if they had jobs. Some people claim that it is impossible to simply rid our country of illegal immigrants- however, by taking more precautions with our borders, we can easily reduce the numbers of illegal immigrants coming into our country. Such precautions may include keeping more security on our southern and northern borders, and screening people who come into our country.
The last major problem that illegal immigrants pose is bringing diseases to America. “There’s a growing health concern over illegal immigrants bringing infectious diseases into the United States.”, claims the CDC. This is telling us that illegal immigrants aren’t screened for diseases, so we can’t tell if they bring anything harmful with them. This will cause disease to ultimately become widespread in the United States and hurt our people. “Indiana University School of Medicine in 2001 studied an outbreak of MDR-TB and traced it to illegal immigrants from Mexico.”. This means great dangers to the American people. Tuberculosis is a very deadly disease if not treated. Illegal immigration is a huge issue that needs to be stopped as soon as possible.
In conclusion, if illegal immigration was cut down, our country would be more prosperous, safe, and wealthy. Our roads would be safer as well as our citizens. We would not have to worry about our jobs being stolen or taken. Our country would become more progressive. We simply have to take more steps to make sure the people entering our country are harmless and here legally.
