On common on average only 1/3 of college athletes are given a scholarship and a majority are half as much as a full scholarships as stated by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. From that 1/3 about two percent make it to the expert league. Picture yourself as a college athlete; alarm goes off at 5- thirty in the morning, eat, and then training, accompanied by using a brief bathe, if there's enough time, then class at 9. After being in class from 9 in the morning to approximately 6 in the afternoon you have homework that must be done to receive a degree. Due to your no-break time table resulting in little sleep and missing class; you now have to participate in tutoring lessons after class and before the afternoon training. By the time you get out of the second practice it's night time, approximately 11 at night and because tutoring became in replace of homework time you're now caught doing homework after practice until about one in the morning. It takes numerous amounts of energy to hold up with this schedule however by paying college athletes that power and energy goes into benefits for the students and society which is why they should get compensated.

Youth empowerment is a process that involves young people and encouraging them to take control of their life and help change the lives of others. This occurs when you transform your perception through beliefs, values and attitudes. For college athletes, it sometimes goes beyond just doing a sport because they fell in love with it. Some of them see it as a way to hopefully obtain scholarships and some sort of financial aid that will significantly reduce their cost to attend the school, and this tends to give them the freedom to excel in the classroom. They are more motivated to do well both in class and at practice, being what is known as a student-athlete. This occurs in hopes of either becoming a successful athlete, or becoming a well-paid professional, but how will this be attained if they don’t get some sort of push start? Getting paid at the college level will motivate those from the lower class background to be in control of their future by attending college and hopefully causing a turnoff in the sense that college will be seen as a gateway to gaining academic freedom. This can also combat the stigma attached to those from the lower class, saying that they can not find a way out. They might have not wanted to attend college because of the incurred cost that it will be for tuition, and taking out loans sometimes feel like a lifelong serial killer chasing you.

In relation to empowerment, the college athletes would become more independent. By paying the athletes they would worry less in paying tuition or books and would not need to take from family income to support themselves. They would also become better at saving money and investing. For instance, the money they earn gets put away and a percentage gets taken out to expenses such as housing and food while the rest stays put away. With less worry in the tuition area they would open the opportunity to be able to potentially use the money that is saved and start a business. For example, Howard Schultz had no money, but by working he gained some money to start buying a small Cafe, which he eventually started to expand, which now became a multi-million dollar success. He was independent from the beginning and by students having to experience only relying on themselves and their work will push them more to succeed. Now what if that money was actually given to you, because practice is tedious and you have no time for work outside of college?

Paying college athletes would not only benefit the students but also benefit the school. The reason colleges recruit players is because they have potential or are have the capability to help the program become better and of course, win games.. The point of making the program better and winning games is to make the school recognized in society, to develop a legacy and overall become an incentive for other students to want to go to school. As a result it creates a larger pool of students to choose from in a ripple effect. This also includes those that are academically gifted, making the school influential. All those benefits comes from one thing, the players. Paying college athletes also has a potential long term effect on the student. As stated before that two percent of the college athletes go pro. Those pro athletes could help promote the schools programs because if it wasn’t for that school, who provided the money to become a pro athlete, they wouldn’t be a pro. So by paying athletes it will increase the school population because of the success and exposure received by the students that they paid to play at their school.

From morning to night college students are working while putting in a large amount of effort and a variety of time. All of which is required to be a student-athlete and not even a penny is earned. Paying college athletes will allow the states to exclude student-athletes from unemployment compensation and in doing so they consequently increase the amount of money that may be used on assisting the homeless or other activities associated with the growth of the financial system. With these elements in mind, playing a sport in college is the same as a full time process, minus the cash, because it isn't pretty much gambling the game, what additionally comes with the sportis going to school and keeping up with grades that's why colleges should to pay athletes.
