When people talk about underage drinking, it usually deals with the 15-19 years old group, yet in the last few decades, underage drinking has been dealing with the early teens and the middle school children as well. The problem starts with the access to beer and the various “power” drinks with the low percentage of alcohol, which is considered harmless among some people. In truth, it leads to serious alcohol addiction and poses a serious problem among the youth in the United States and beyond. This social problem is important because it is not only the asocial elements of the society as one may assume but those who attend the school parties or get into “trying a drink” by the older friends.

Unfortunately, this problem is not new at all since the issues of underage drinking have been noticed in medical and educational literature. The problem with modern society, however, deals with a plethora of low-alcohol drinks and energizers that contain several elements that are dangerous for a young person. It does not matter how much is being consumed, the true problem lies within the elements of the drink and the lack of control in modern society. Unfortunately, we can see how the culture of drinking has changed in the last few decades and became something that most music videos and gangs seem to promote, which makes it a fierce debate topic.

According to SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration), it is hard to outline certain people who would represent the general movement, yet it is important to mention several federal agencies and the national organizations that work within this field. one of them is CADCA who work in the community in 18 countries around the world. Next, we have a "Talk. They Hear You" campaign that lets former underage drinkers share their experience and talk in favor of mental and physical recovery. Finally, we have "Faces & Voices of Recovery", which stands for promoting the mobilization of specialists that aim to help young people to recover from substance abuse, including alcohol.

• It can lead to cardiac arrests and memory loss.
• It can result in self-harm and aggressive behavior.

• It is the crime against the law that can result in the loss of parenting rights.

As a responsible citizen and a future or a current parent, you may understand all the importance of this topic in terms of social significance. At the same time, it also has importance for parents and educators who try to prevent young people from damaging themselves. Think about the other side of things, which is called “the mass following” or what they also identify as the hype or something that most young people like to follow. Seeing at least one famous celebrity drink that shiny bottle of Jack Daniels may sound overly cool, yet it is the poison and danger that must be addressed. Your attitude is what matters!

As a disturbing social issue that takes place around us and happens in middle schools and even homes across the country, the exploration of underage drinking and bringing this problem to the surface is more important than ever. Think about what can be done, what causes it, and how it could be prevented. As a college student, you must be responsible and set a positive example. Share your thoughts, think about how this problem can be addressed and see some of our examples that will help you to get started.

This problem can be settled down or at least decreased with the help of community work and educational initiatives. You must set an example for the younger people by explaining the negative effects of drinking. It is not the “you can drink once you get older”. It is much better to explain this part by saying that it won’t change much even for adults because it still remains damaging. Do not let the young people feel alienated but do some work in the local community and be the positive change.
