Recently, a lot of people tend to blame religion for everything that has gone wrong in the world. They blame religion for all the fightings and killings, they say, the fact we have decided to abandon the tradition of our ancestors and embraced religion has led to a lot of evil. Well, I think, we are all allowed to air our views, it is a free world, after all, but I just want to slightly say a few things about this issue.
Truly, I want to acknowledge the fact that a lot of people have failed to understand what religion is all about and the aim of it. Now, if you want to look at all the fightings and killings that are been carried out for the sake of religion, then it will be safe to say, religion has played a major role towards the ills of the society. It amazes me, how people who claim to believe in God, would kill & fight one another all in the name of God. It baffles me, how people who claim to have the love of God in them, would bomb a church, mosque or any other place for that matter, all in the name of religion. It doesn't make sense! I am shocked at how people would allow themselves to be manipulated by religious leaders for their selfish interest. I mean, how did we get to this point? Why would anyone in the right frame of mind allow such manipulation? This breaks my heart so badly. A lot of people have brought so much shame and name calling to the kingdom of God. It's really sad!
Honestly, religion is never the issue here. Christianity as a religion is not the problem today. For starters, we serve a God of peace and love. The Bible says He so loved the world that He offered His only Begotten Son to die for the sin he did not commit. How else can He prove His love for mankind? The Holy Book has never encouraged fighting and killing of one another for the sake of the kingdom rather it encourages a love for humanity. The Bible says we should love everyone irrespective of tribe, religion, ideas, and views. The word of God never asked us to force our Christian beliefs on other people. Christianity preaches love, peace, and co-existence.
I want to use this essay to call on my brothers and sisters from other religions to say no to all the killings in the name of religion and embrace the true teachings of God Almighty. Everyone must not belong to the same religion, it's a free world, after all. Our job is to spread the gospel to those who are ignorant of God's word and leave the rest to God. He is the only one who is capable of conviction. Belonging to a particular religion is not a do or die affair.
As believers, the Bible says, woe unto any man who will bring shame to the name of God because we are supposed to influence others with Christ-like attitude in order to willingly win souls for the kingdom. We don't need to be aggressive about it. The word of God never says we should be aggressive about the things of God. Secondly, the Bible encourages a personal study of the Word of God, establish a relationship with God, and depend on the Holy Spirit to teach and put an end to any confusion. We are not allowed to base solely on the teachings of these leaders. Some of them can actually lead us astray by teaching the wrong doctrines. This explains why the Bible says we should look unto Jesus and Him alone. I pray God will see us through, amen!
