Studying Abroad and Scholarship: Why I Deserve It

I am applying for the master’s programme and the VUFP Scholarship at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam to advance my career path and to develop skills that others need. My goal in life is to be useful to others, for me that is the ultimate success. Learning business management and administration will make me useful to many. Managing and administration are meta-skills, and people will always need them. Learning them gives me options. Options are opportunities, and I am an absolute opportunist. The best plan for me is the one that lets me change my plans. I consider an International MBA to be the best move I can do for my career, and I am extremely motivated to pursue one. I am certain that this Master’s programme will help me to fulfil myself in both professional and personal contexts. I have finished my bachelor’s programme where I have spent a lot of time and effort on learning subjects, which reflect my preferences and interests such as Information Technology for Supply Chain Management, Principles of Purchasing and Materials Management, Principles of Management, Purchasing Management and Warehouse and Stockyard Management etc. My drive has enabled my lectures to enter me in various responsibilities in these fields where I often end up as batch top in my class. I am also very interested in teamwork, and therefore participate in organising Alumni events, CSR projects and supporting friends and classmates. I feel these activities will be the way in which I can make a difference and gain the leadership skills necessary to reach my goals. Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is the number one option for my Master’s Degree. What I value highest is the location, as I have wanted to go live in Netherlands for years. Now the question is why I deserve this scholarship. The following essay is the answer.

Living in Amsterdam for a year would be a dream come true. I am impressed by the international university rankings and the praise of the former students. It ensures me that the university will propel my career in the right direction. The curriculum is exactly what I am looking for, as it will give me many different career options. The focus on entrepreneurship interests me, as I am a creative person who constantly tries to think outside of the box. My current goal is to start and develop good initiative to start business with green concept is to be useful to others, for me that is the ultimate success. After doing some research in varies areas, I realised that I need to get an international exposure to achieve this goal. I can contribute with effective and efficient work methods. University has always been easy for me. My trick is to recognize what is important, and focus on that. I approach everything I do systematically. I always look for ways to simplify, and I question everything I do. My ability to be both effective and efficient will be an asset. I can contribute with eagerness to learn, active participation and intensive focus. I have an unlimited passion for learning. This is why I deserve a scholarship.

The desire to learn skills that are useful to others drives me and motivates me. I always participate actively in class, and I will surely share my opinions. I can also focus intensively on one task for a long period. My attention span is extremely long. That is an asset both to me and to those I work with and that is why I deserve the VUFP scholarship. I can contribute with leadership abilities. I tend to take charge in social and professional situations. I consider myself a natural leader, based on my work as a leader in LEO Club International and as a group instructor. I learned during my highest studies that the Russian Tsar, Peter the Great, went to the Netherlands to learn how to build ships and I have always wondered why he chose this country for his education and what else one can learn there. Since then, I have tried to find out more about the Netherlands and the more I have been learning, the more my motivation to study there has grown.

The educational approach that is use in the Netherlands would provide me with the widest range of specialisations in the field of international business, as well as many practical skills, which is exactly what I need. When I found the masters in Business and Management programme at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, I realised that it is the best choice for me for a number of reasons. First, this programme covers the business topics that interest me the most, such as Finance, Economics, Marketing, and Communication. As a future business leader, I must be an expert in these fields, capable of analysing and solving any practical problems I may face. I am certain that the numerous traineeships and case assignments I will take part in during this programme will help me to gain the necessary knowledge and skills. The second reason I am drawn to Netherland is the international environment it features. Looking at my future, I understand that the only way to be successful in today’s business world is to make it in an international context.

At your university, the most international university in the Netherlands, I will learn how to communicate with people from different backgrounds to achieve the best working results, which I believe, will be the next big step in my development. Thirdly, studying at your university will significantly improve my English skills. As one the most important languages in the world, English will help me to form new connections and expand my social network to a global level. Finally, this programme and the scholarship will help me to develop myself as a team player and cultivate the leadership skills necessary for my future career. I will learn to be responsible not only for myself, but also for the whole team, which I believe is essential for a business manager.

I understand that studying abroad is going to be the most challenging step in my life so far, but I also believe I can withstand any problems I will face and make the most of the knowledge and experience gained through this study programme. I hope to contribute my talents and efforts to your university and become a worthy member of the team. I’m writing this 250-word essay to answer the question of why I deserve a scholarship. I think I deserve the Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) because it will enable me to achieve my long-term career goals. I aim to make a tremendous difference in coating and corrosion science especially Singapore coating industries whereby, the interaction between zinc particle and white rust with coating matrix as well as zinc size, shape, thickness effect on zinc-rich coating system can be understood and presented. SINGA will undeniably be the difference-maker as it relates to afford me the Ph.D. education needed to achieve exactly that. Receiving the SINGA scholarship will empower me to work towards a coating world where I can develop a thinner zinc-rich coating with lower zinc content while giving durable corrosion protection of steel structures that will benefit Singapore coating industries.

I was inspired to apply for SINGA because the scheme supports research project topics like New Generation of Zinc-Rich Coating for corrosion protection of Steel Structures, Corrosion Mechanism of Metals and Alloys under tropical and accelerated exposure conditions, etc… that aligns with my research interest and of which I have already gained significant experience during my undergraduate and Master’s research projects.

I am appreciative to be considered by the appropriate SINGA committee, and if I am selected, I will use the award to pursue my Ph.D. education in Physical Science and Engineering especially Material Science. I will have the opportunity to demonstrate I possess key research skills needed to become a successful Ph.D. student and an outstanding researcher, thereby, making a meaningful contribution to my field of study.
