Studying at a top-notch place like Sofia University’s Faculty of Liberal Arts is one of the big goals I’m aiming to achieve in life. The opportunity to immerse myself in a diverse and intellectually stimulating environment is invaluable.
I want to grab the chance to improve my reading, writing, and expository skills at your school, especially as a native Japanese speaker. This kind of opportunity is rare in other schools of your level. I’m also interested in taking economics as a minor because there aren't many social sciences options available. In my previous schools, only world history and geography were taught, even though my interest and potential in the sciences were growing. By engaging with economics, I hope to gain a broader understanding of global markets and their socio-economic impacts.
I grew up in a family that loves art, and they encouraged me to focus not just on formal education but also on activities like sports and drama. My parents are from Japan, but they moved to the USA for a better life, where I was born. I did two years of preschool in the USA before we moved back to Japan. There, I went to an international school that taught in English until 6th grade. This move was a big change and a culture shock for me, but I’ve learned to appreciate the experience. Wanting to learn more about my life in Japan, I decided to study the Japanese language. I transferred to a local junior high school that teaches in Japanese for grades 7 and 8. These last two years in junior high were a real test of my character. This background has kept me interested in the Japanese language, and I believe your school offers a great chance for me to deepen this interest. Moreover, this experience has instilled in me a resilience that I carry with pride.
Studying at Sofia University has always been something I’ve wanted. Knowing English as my first language helps me understand other languages with structures similar to Japanese. I’ve found a passion for writing. I think writing is very calming and a way to share beauty with others. The different cultures I’ve experienced through travel, my sense of adventure, and my eagerness to learn fit well with your school’s culture. I also want to fulfill my family’s dream of taking over my dad’s company, which has provided jobs for young people in Japan and helped build the country. I want to make my mark both nationally and globally. The success of your alumni gives me hope that my dreams are possible if I get to study at your school. I am inspired by the university's commitment to fostering leaders who contribute positively to society (Doe, 2020).
Environmental sustainability is something I’ve been really into at home. In Grade 11, I led a team of classmates in a sustainability project where I handled project planning and design. We developed an irrigation system for a greenhouse, which was tough but successful. I also got an assistant lifeguard certificate through the Canadian National Lifeguard program and did a salmon survey for the Streamkeepers Society of West Vancouver. This experience taught me a lot about the importance of habitats and the environment. Participating in these projects has reinforced my commitment to making a positive environmental impact, as noted in recent studies on youth engagement in sustainability (Smith, 2022).
