Child labor is work that deprives the children to live their normal childhood and their potential to do more to help them to grow as a better person. it is also harmful to physical and mental development of a child. in the Philippines where child labor is widespread, everywhere you go, you can see children working on the streets for them to have food to eat everyday or for them to survive in their everyday living. Based on the 2011 survey for the children of the Philippines Statistic Authority (PSA), there are 2.1 million child laborers and almost of these children is ages 5-17 years old. There are lot of factors why child labor exists here in the Philippines, such as the poverty, the parents who is being irresponsible, also lack of access to education could be a factors to the child labor.

Child labor is not for the development of the country, why? Because it will only make the country worse, this will not help our country to become successful, especially the children who is experiencing this kind of situation. Child labor deprives the children of proper childhood according to International Labor Organization (ILO), it is true that child labor deprives the children of their normal childhood, why? Because they can’t enjoy their lives as children. In Presidential Degree no. 602 “Child and Youth Welfare Code” Article 3 – Rights of a Child, states that all children has 12 rights, and in the sixth right of the children says that every child has the right to be educated, in the seventh right, they has also the right to play and enjoy whenever they have an opportunity, but those children who is working at their young age does not experincing those rights, because they can’t play anytime they want and of course, children do not go to school and didn’t experincing the proper education that could be able to help them to find better-paid jobs in the future, but because of working those opportunities that are waiting for them has possibility that they may not achieve. According to International Labor Organization (ILO), children are prone to accidents and other injuries in work, because most of them works in farms, plantations, in dangerous mimes and in the streets. According to National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), most child begins working at a young age, are malnourished, and working in a long hours in hazardous occupations. Lastly, child labors promotes abuse, since they are just at young age, of course they get low wages, according to National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). Children who is working at their young age could experience abuse, physical, emotional and of course mental abuse. Children could experience physical abuse, in a way that they are abusing themselves on over working, because they want to have money for them to buy their food to eat and sometimes instead of buying the food for them to eat, the money probably proceeds to their parents, because they are afraid that they might get scolded by their parents. And because of it, it will also affects their emotional being, they might also experience emotional abuse and mental abuse, because the parents did’nt giving them the love and importance that every children must feel.

We should stop child labor here in the Philippines. It will only destroy the future of the children, they must go to school, must enjoy their childhood lives, because it is what they deserve and they have rights for these as stated in Presidential Degree no. 602 “Child and Youth Welfare Code” Article 3 – Rights of a Child. There are better opportunities waiting for them in the future. Child labor is not for the development of our country. It will only hinders the development of the country.
