This study focuses on marketing strategies in trading of second-hand apparel. Many of us don’t know how to dispose some of our garments that are loss in the style, are you one of them who have a lot of clothes that is set aside and being junk for years? But numerous people doesn’t have enough money to buy such clothes that’s still in trend, so some of us are having an idea of giving the old clothes back into the fashion trend. Presently we have two ways in buying second hand clothes the outdated way which is referring to the ukay-ukay stores and the contemporary way which is referring to the online selling of preloved clothes. This research will be conducted based on the marketing approach of senior highschool and college students in San Jose del Monte Bulacan.

I came up with the idea of having this research because of my own passion, interest, ongoing trends in social media and also because of my hobby to mix and match some clothing’s, but like the other students I don’t have enough budget to fill my own wants, so I find an alternative way to be still fashionable in low cost by buying at the ukay-ukay stores and recently in the online preloved. Comparing and analyzing the circumstances that affects how preloved clothes and ukay-ukay clothes is moving to the market. Identifying the concepts that they apply to make the selling more convenient. This could also the key to open up a new idea on modern way of buying and selling that make the consumers more convenient. This could help the future entrepreneur adjust how market is moving and cycling. This research purposes to analyze the second-hand market flow and its structure together with its social and cultural influences.

Past years ago, preloved clothes were sold in a store for charity purposes, but later on the preloved clothes become a business of individuals. They tend to sell their own preloved apparel by posting it online.

Buying a lot of clothes then later on stocks inside of your closet is such a waste of money. Based on a research, selling second hand clothes could be the way forward if you’re looking to put some extra cash in your pocket. Research also suggest that most women have nearly £1, 000 worth of clothes in their wardrobe that haven’t been worn for a year or more and of clothes are worth less than a £16 the average woman won’t bother returning it. So what to do if your wardrobe is filled with fashions that no longer fit or designer dresses you’ve only worn once or at best twice? The great idea here is to sell those on a preloved website because it is absolutely free to place an advertise, there are no listing fee, no selling fee and no catches. Preloved isn’t merely only for clothes you can advertise everything as long as it is well-loved and in a brand-new state.

Buying second hand clothes can contribute big in some aspects like having your ideal outfit by great finds in a low cost and convenient time. Styles of clothing can come in variety forms of these, vintage clothing’s, export packages, and swapping clothes with friends. The fashion revolution provides you an opportunity to recreate your favorite outfits for a fraction of the price by buying form local preloved charity shops. This keeps the perfect outfits out of landfill and at the same time you help people. Second hand clothes nowadays are very affordable basis for fashionable yet durable apparel and very applicable for those who have low incomes. Some people would use this as an alternative way to be up-to-the-minute because they also look like brand-new items that may be bought in quite high-class stores and shopping malls.

Although some of the second-hand apparels are few seasons back but you can repair and mix match to your current clothing’s in your closet. Altogether, fashion is a cycle and always repeated like vintage ones so one day it will be back in style. Miguel Paolo Celestial looks very well put together. A production journalist for The Financial Times, he has to look his best every day. Buying clothes from ukay-ukay stores are more than just necessity for Paolo. One could say it’s his hobby, but there’s a dimension to his interest in these second-hand clothes that’s undeniably artistic. “You’d be surprised how many high end brands can be found in your typical ukay-ukay store. Make sure that when you find something amazing, don’t show it. if the salesperson sees you looking excited, the price would go up” he says. I love preloved shopping. It was one of my formats to shop in, and I still enjoy it from time to time, although quite differently when I was shopping in my unconscious days. “if have had or still have an issue with compulsive, impulsive over-shopping, then beware prelove shopping. Why? Because it can seem like it’s a ‘non shopping’ option, mainly because the items are so discounted” Nowadays preloved clothes were merchandised by posting it online, anyone can sell their own preloved and well-loved condition clothes at their own social media accounts. They can also post items in the online shops like Shopee, OLX and Carousel.

Preloved clothes are items that are used but in a new condition that was called pre-owned and also buying preloved clothing are affordable and time consumable because you can reserve the items online then ship directly to your house or possibly meet ups. Preloved clothes online and ukay-ukay clothes are both second-hand but has a different matter in terms of how it is presented to the market. Every ber-months preloved clothes of celebrities especially the Kapuso stars, were sold at the Noel Bazaar in past few years they donated the funds for the Kapuso foundation, some of those are Regine and Ogie Alcasid, Tom Rodriguez and Carla abellana, Heart Evangelista, Jennylyn Mercado, Mark Herras and many more.

We were still hook on shopping clothes in ukay-ukay’s at the nearest markets, a big contribution that encourage us to buy was the fashion guru’s that exposes their inspiring outfits for a day that’s came from the ukay-ukays haul. Continuously inspiring their followers and fashion enthusiast by posting their ukay-ukay inspired OOTD’s in Facebook and Instagram and just recently many of the YouTube bloggers were captivated to do a 200 up to 500 peso ukay-ukay haul challenge.

When it comes to clothes and changing fashion trends, conscious consumers face a tough tradeoff. It often feels like a tricky balance between buying trendy clothes that feel great, and contributing to the problematic and polluting industry of new apparel. Increasingly there are socially responsible stores – like Zady and Everlane – that are reducing the negative impacts of buying new clothes. But there’s an even better option out there for the planet and for your wallet: buying used. Besides just being cheaper, buying used clothing has a number of benefits. Even sustainably sourced new clothes still have an environmental impact. In fact, an average t-shirt takes about 700 gallons of water to produce. Meanwhile, Americans are throwing away 11 million tons of textiles a year – all of which end up in landfills, even though half of us are throwing away perfectly reusable items of clothing. Buying used prevents that initial waste, and can help keep clothes out of the landfill. The point of this study is to understand and analyze the social aspects to promote buying and selling preloved and ukay-ukay for efficiency. This new market changes the perspective of the middle class in the society and measuring the level of awareness of the according to this topic. What is its contribution to the growth of our country? Do we have enough security in terms of buying and selling at our own risk?

In the Philippines, the market for second-hand garments flourished from its considered capital, Baguio City, province of Benguet despite the law that prohibits the wholesale of second hand clothes. Although Philippines is prohibited since 1966 under Republic Act number4653 also known as the “Act to safeguard the health of the Filipino people to maintain the dignity of the nation through the prohibition of the importation of used clothing and rags” (ratified July 1966) has been enacted, there is no clear implementation of this law. According to Mt. Province Representative Maximo Dalog, a lot of businessmen in the Cordillera who engaged in the ukay-ukay trade have succeeded in their business. Many of them, he pointed out, started with a meager capital before they earned money from it. There has been a sudden revival in the popularity of used clothing in the past few years. From the charm of vintage style to the economic inclusiveness, second hand clothing has a prominent presence in the fashion world. Although wearing secondhand clothing has become a widespread fashion statement only recently, the roots of this practice can be traced back to as early as medieval times. It was a common practice for people to reuse the materials of an outfit by taking it apart. Once an outfit was unsewn, the side of the material that was less exposed to the elements was sewn in backwards, so the less worn, newer looking side was now showing. As years went on, reusing clothing was no longer just a personal act, but became a social act as well. A practice for people to gift each other second hand clothing, rather than just using used material as a method of fixing their own clothes, streamlined its presence into mainstream fashion.

According to Love to Knows article, “History of Secondhand Clothes, ” it is important to study both the formal and informal distribution of secondhand clothing. Author Lynda Fitzwater pointed out that sometimes “informal ways may indeed be considered formal, especially in the case of servants receiving their masters’ ‘gifts’ of clothing, which were actually considered part of their remuneration. ”

Currently, the practices of buying, gifting, and making secondhand clothing and accessories is alive and well. Fashionista Magazine writer Lauren Indvik reported that “over the past seven years, venture capitalist have funneled hundreds of millions of dollars into websites and apps designed to get women to buy and sell their secondhand clothing and accessories online. ” In 2002, the Macapagal-Arroyo banned the entry and sale of ukay-ukay items in the market. This created discontent among its patrons, who look at ukay-ukay goods as the most affordable in the market. “This entailed some implementation cost on the side of the government. While authorities had every legal right to confiscate and even bum such items, ukay-ukay stall owners managed to remain unscathed by relocating outside Metro Manila-to locations not usually monitored by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), ” he said. To Ban or Legalize Ukay-Ukay? Without doubt, secondhand clothing and garments retail and trade have become a part of the domestic market. Abueg said the government’s main objective to protect local markets and industries has been set into law when Republic Act 4653 banned the importation, sale, and retail of ukay-ukay goods. Abueg made the observation that public policy implementation is a persistent problem of the government. There have been no further recorded government actions since the enactment of the law banning ukay-ukay.

Mr. Province Rep. Maximo Dalog and Baguio City Rep. Bernardo Vergara insisted that it will be the poor people who will be burdened by the proposed tax measure. They asserted that the imposition of new tax measure is contrary to the campaign promise of President Benigno Aquino III that he will not allow such move but will instead urge the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to intensify tax collection. Dalog said taxing the ukay-ukay goods will considerably increase its prices, thus, making it beyond the reach of ordinary people. He said a lot of businessmen in the Cordillera who engaged in the ukay-ukay trade have succeeded in their business. Many of them, he pointed out, started with a meager capital before they earned money from it.
