Healthy eating and cooking is one way to maintain not only a healthy weight but also a healthy lifestyle. With the obesity epidemic on the rise, it is crucial for people to strive towards healthier eating habits. The more frequently people dine at fast food restaurants, the more their health deteriorates. On the other hand, consuming nutritious foods can lead to increased energy levels and a more active lifestyle.
People who eat out every single day tend to be either overweight or obese. Obesity can lead to numerous health issues down the road, such as heart failure, heart attack, and in some cases, even death. Maintaining a healthy weight is beneficial because it reduces the risk of health problems and aids in mobility. For instance, if you dine at McDonald's every day, the fat in their food can accumulate in your arteries, causing your cholesterol to skyrocket, and potentially leading to financial strain due to medical bills (Smith, 2020). The lesson here is not to eat at fast-food restaurants every day but to indulge occasionally as a treat.
The obesity epidemic is advancing rapidly and claiming the lives of many Americans. Obesity is defined as having an excess amount of body fat, often resulting from consuming too many fatty, fried foods. More than one-third of Americans are overweight or obese, primarily due to fast foods (Johnson & Lee, 2019). The estimated annual cost for obese individuals was $147 billion in 2008 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2020). Obesity is preventable by making healthier food choices and adopting better eating habits.
If individuals opt for healthier foods, such as salads and grilled chicken, instead of French fries and cheeseburgers, they will have more energy and be able to engage in more physical activities. The healthier you are, the better you tend to feel. People who maintain good health often lead more active lives and participate in activities like walking and running. Other activities enjoyed by healthy individuals include swimming, playing sports, and having fun. Incorporating more nutritious foods into your diet can enable you to partake in enjoyable activities (Brown & Taylor, 2021).
In conclusion, by consuming healthy foods and engaging in regular exercise, you can avoid obesity and various other health issues. Obesity and being overweight are the second leading causes of preventable death in the United States, closely following smoking. Additional health problems associated with obesity include coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon), hypertension (high blood pressure), stroke, liver and gallbladder disease, sleep apnea and respiratory problems, osteoarthritis (a degeneration of cartilage and its underlying bone within a joint), and gynecological issues (abnormal menses, infertility) (National Institutes of Health, 2020). The moral of this essay is that by eating healthily, you can significantly reduce the risk of severe health problems in the future.
