The MacBook Pro was first introduced to the world on May 16, 2006, coming from Cupertino, CA where Apple HQ is. This laptop was the only of its kind and brought the technological world to a halt. With a 15-inch display, Core 2 Duo Processor, 120 GB Hard drive, basically a lot of goodies, it caught the eye of many techies. Aside from them, there was the general public who loved its clean and modern look being aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Apple took a big leap into the world of laptops when they released the MacBook. This not only benefited them greatly with popularity and finance but the public as well. Everything an iMac had to offer was now squeezed into a portable and practical computer. From iTunes to iMovie, and then in 2008 would come the launch of the App Store, holding 500+ apps. Apple sales at the time raised from $320 million to $472 million. Their Financial Chief Officer, Peter Oppenheimer, exclaimed, “We are thrilled to have reported the second-highest quarterly sales and earnings in Apple’s history. ”
On February 25, in the year 1955 in San Francisco, California, was born Apple’s main mastermind, Steve Jobs. He was adopted by parents who had never attended college, but, that did not affect his intelligence one bit. His teachers would let him skip class because he was always bored with how easy it was and would start to play pranks. Steve’s adoptive father was a mechanic, who he worked with sometimes, but would prefer to play about with electronic circuits. In High School, he met Steve Wozniak who would go on to be his partner in crime to create Apple, with Ronald Wayne soon to come along. For students all throughout the country, the MacBook-Pro opened new doors for note-taking, studying, study group facetime, and much more. Even though Apple had released the Powerbook laptop in the past, the MacBook came with so many new features that it was unbeatable.
I have a much more modern MacBook Pro, but it is because of the 2006 model being invented that I am even typing up this paper right now. My cousin, who attended HighSchool back in 2012 as a freshman, got his very first laptop that year, a MacBook Pro. Since it is an older model, it is much thicker and heavier than the one I have. He still uses it to this day, a Rutgers pre-med student, because of all the ways it’s made his academic life more manageable. My MacBook acts as an organizer in my life; from keeping essential dates on the calendar, to submitting papers, to taking notes. Indeed it is a supermachine that unfortunately, a few select of us take for granted.
