What you eat can be the problem and the solution in life when it comes to being healthier. Food is one of the main causes of death in America and It needs to be more controlled. Uncontrollable eating can lead to diabetes, heart disease, and so many other illnesses that can determine the end of your life. People do not watch their diets letting fattening and carbonated foods take control. They are so focused on the craving and not the gaining. This leads to obesity making unnecessary health problems occur. Not only has this negatively affected people’s health, but those people who eat responsibly are being forced to cover obese people’s health insurance. The political views and opinions on this topic are very strong.
Wanting to diet and having to diet. Some people have the motivation and dedication to put down the pastry and pick up the broccoli and they do it by choice, to set a goal for themselves. While researching I found an article called What is healthy Eating? What is a Healthy Diet?, in this article they state that “A balanced diet - or a good diet - means consuming from all the different good groups in the right quantities.” “But some people’s self-control is weaker than others and they go by what they want instead of what they need. This is when you think about self control and having smaller portions. In the article Portion Sizes and Obesity it is stated that “Portion size is a key environmental driver of energy intake, and larger than appropriate portion sizes could increase the risk of weight gain” People who are told by a professional or doctor that they need to be on a diet could be at risk for heart disease, diabetes, and of course having the diagnosis of being obese. For example, a family member of mine love sweets, and her cravings have caught up with her. She now has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and is now limited too the amount of sugar she can have per day. Although she is aware of her diagnosis she still continues to eat sweets increasing her health risks. Some unhealthy food is so tempting that people are willing to take the risk. But I have to ask these people, is it really worth it? Look where it is getting them. It is not only going to make their lives more difficult but it could possibly shorten their lives as well.
Craving is something that only one’s self can control. It’s a constant stress of wanting something and knowing you can’t have it. The thought of craving is constantly battling the thought of gaining. This battle is one that almost every human being fights no matter what their health status. Why is it that most of the foods that we crave are the ones that we probably should not be eating? It all depends on how the food is made and processed. For example, why is a Whopper from Burger King so delicious when in reality it is a simple burger that we could all make at home? It is processed differently and is not natural.
It is so unfortunate that America is known to be one of the unhealthiest countries in the world. (Carroll,Dan Pg.23) America provides so much unhealthy food, and influences so many people to eat it. The average American eats whatever they want whenever they want without a limit. We do not think about our health when we are eating something we enjoy., as stated in the article The Obesity Epidemic Is America’s Greatest Ongoing Crisis “ Obesity brings a whole host of unwanted factors to sufferers” (Carroll, Dan. Pg.23). Meaning that people suffering from obesity have to deal with multiple consequences for example diabetes.
This issue has become a problem within our government. Health insurance is rising. Why? Because “Health insurers can’t turn away customers with preexisting conditions anymore, and insurance premiums could be ready to skyrocket” (Carroll, Dan. Pg 24). People have to pay for other people’s medication to help them survive because they are suffering from obesity or other health issues caused by weight gain.. It has become a huge problem around the United States “A society where everyone is responsible for everyone else’s well-being is a society more apt to accept government restrictions” (Radley Balko pg. 468).
In conclusion, we should eat what we need to and what we want. But we need to balance it out depending on our health status. People in America need to realize what comes first, your health or your cravings, which will push you one step back in dieting. People need to come to the understanding that food will process forever our lives wont.
